Used for testing the permeability of a compacted asphalt paving mixture.
Permeability in pavements is extremely important. If the mix is permeable premature stripping will occur, shortening the lifetime of the pavement. Removal and replacement are expensive.
This simple and easy to use permeameter will help to prevent unneeded replacement. The falling head method is utilized to determine water conductivity of water-saturated samples.
The specimen is placed in a metal cylinder held in place by a latex membrane that will be pressurized by the built in hand pump. The expanding membrane pushes against the outer edge of the sample, filling in voids and preventing flow down the side of the core. The sample is then saturated from the bottom, and 500cc of water is allowed to flow through the sample while being timed.
