The pumping action of the Mixxor's piston mixes the two phases much better than the laborious shaking motion used with a separatory funnel. Experimental results show that six easy strokes of the Mixxor piston gives you higher recoveries and more reproducible extractions than 40 shakes with a separatory funnel. Summary of operation: 1. Adjust height using spacer to ensure that separator does not touch bottom of reservoir. 2. Introduce sample and extraction solvent into reservoir. 3. Insert mixer-separator piston into reservoir, tighten cap. 4. Pump several times to mix. 5. Place mixer-separator in up position. Slide down holder-spacer and loosen cap. 6. After separation, slide down the mixer-separator to transfer upper phase into collecting container. Lower phase liquid must not pass axial channel. Adjust holder-spacer. 7. Decant liquid from collecting container, lower phase will not pour out.
